Plea Deal Reached in 582-Pound Marijuana Bust

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – One of the men arrested after 582 pounds of marijuana was seized from a Fort Wayne house is pleading guilty to criminal charges.

Twenty-three-year-old Alvaro Rivera-Arvayo pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

The Journal Gazette reports prosecutors are recommending the level of his offense be lowered for sentencing. Rivera-Arvayo faces between five years and 40 years in prison.

He and two other men were arrested after federal agents intercepted 25 bales of marijuana being shipped through Indianapolis in April. Authorities say undercover agents drove the bales to Fort Wayne the next day and delivered them to Rivera-Arvayo.
