Police Warn School Bus Stop Violators

School transportation officials in Fort Wayne are reporting an increase in the number of motorists who fail to stop for school buses. Police are reminding motorists that it’s illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped on a roadway with the stop arm extended… a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to 180 days in jail, and a $1,000 fine. It becomes a class a misdemeanor, however, if that disregard results in bodily injury. That’s punishable by up to a year behind bars and a $5,000 fine. Police will be looking for violators, especially in areas identified as key trouble spots.
