DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – If you’ve eaten at Martin’s Tavern in Garrett this month, you may want to get vaccinated for Hepatitis A.
The DeKalb County Health Department reports a case of Hepatitis A was diagnosed in an employee who handled food at the restaurant while working on February 1-2 and February 5-9.
Our partners in news at ABC 21 report that although those who ate there on the 1-2 or 5-7 are outside the window for post-exposure care, those who consumed food on the 7-9 should get a vaccination by February 23 as a precaution.
It is relatively rare for consumers to become infected with Hepatitis A due to an infected food handler, but health officials are still urging people to be on the lookout.
Vaccinations are being administered at the DeKalb County Health Department (220 E. 7th Street, Suite 110) for those with potential exposure during the following times:
- Friday, Feb. 22 @ 12-4 p.m.
- Saturday, Feb. 23 @ 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver that can cause loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, fever, stomach pain, brown-colored urine and light-colored stools.
It can take up to 7 weeks for those infected to become ill.
