WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Purdue University trustees have approved a tentative budget that includes a tuition freeze at the main campus in West Lafayette and spending cuts at two regional campuses.
 
  Trustees on Friday approved the $1.2 billion system-wide plan. School officials say the board’s executive committee will vote May 22 on the tuition rates after a public hearing.
 
  Purdue intends to hire 30 new engineering faculty members over the next five years. The general fund budget will grow by about 2 percent at West Lafayette. Budgets will be reduced by about 2.5 percent at Purdue Calumet and 1.2 percent at the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
 
  Purdue President Mitch Daniels announced the tuition freeze plan in March. It covers only the main campus and will keep basic in-state tuition about $10,000 a year.
