ANDERSON, Ind. (AP): A racehorse has drowned after veering off the track and into a pond at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson.

Hoosier Park says in a statement the drowning occurred Tuesday morning while 3-year-old Just Dance With Me was training. It says a broken bit and loss of control led to the horse going through an inner fence and into the pond. Officials were unable to get the horse out of the pond, and it drowned.

Driver Brett Wilfong wasn’t hurt. Just Dance With me was owned by the Wilfong family.
Rick Moore, Hoosier Park’s vice president and general manager of racing, says the drowning was the first of its kind in 20 years at the Anderson track. He says it will conduct a full investigation of the incident.
