Rain leads to messy morning commute

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It was a treacherous morning commute for many in northeast Indiana.

Travel advisories were issued for most of the area outside of Allen County, with a travel Watch for DeKalb County and a Warning issued for Steuben County due to icy road conditions.

Many schools took the day off as well, and area police dispatchers told WOWO news they had to respond to many slide-off crashes, including a couple that closed a ramp onto Interstate 69 from Union Chapel Road, as well as a ramp from I-69 onto Lima Road.

The rain early this morning didn’t do enough to completely melt ice on the roadways, which led to the slipperier-than-usual conditions. If you want to keep up with traffic alerts, text the word “NEWS” to 46862.
