FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Indiana Congressman Marlin Stutzman says his vote on rules for the House debate on the federal farm bill cost him the position he had with the Republican leadership team.
 
Stutzman was removed as an assistant whip for congressional Republicans because he opposed the GOP's limits on what farm bill amendments would be debated. Stutzman says he knew that he could lose the position by voting against the leadership team's position.
 
Stutzman represents northeastern Indiana's 3rd district. Stutzman's vote in June came after the House Rules Committee rejected his proposed amendments to separate agriculture programs from the food stamp program, which account for about 80 percent of farm bill spending.
 
Stutzman said Monday he remains on good terms with Republican leaders.
