WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana's revamped State Board of Education had no disputes during its first meeting with five new members.
The board dominated by appointees of Republican Gov. Mike Pence has clashed repeatedly over the past couple years with Democratic state schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz over control of education policy.
No major policy issues were on the agenda for Wednesday's meeting at Purdue University _ and there weren't any references to Ritz's expected announcement on Thursday that she's joining the 2016 governor's race.
Pence and GOP legislative leaders last week appointed five new members to the education board, while five others were reappointed.
Ritz remains the board's chairwoman as the Republican-dominated Legislature delayed a contentious proposal from Pence to allow the board to elect any member as its leader.
