Richmond Prepares old Dana Foundry for Sale

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP): A former foundry that once was Wayne County's largest employer could hit the market this summer.

The county acquired the 44-acre property on Richmond's northwest side after Dana declared bankruptcy and stopped paying property taxes. It went unsold through a county tax sale in October 2008, and the city took over ownership in 2009 at the request of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

IDEM officials agreed to pay for testing and cleanup of the site. That process is about three weeks from completion.

City Metropolitan development Director Tony Foster tells the Palladium-Item http://pinews.co/1rk8Bxv the cleanup has gone faster than expected.

He says proceeds from the sale will be split between the city and county to cover the $28,000 in unpaid taxes that Dana Corp. owes.
