INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) – Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz released Part II of her State of the Classroom Series, which focuses on teachers and the challenges they face due to federal and state regulation and use of high stakes standardized tests. It also discusses challenges Indiana is facing in retaining quality teachers for its students. In the report, Ritz says some of the action needed to be taken includes urging Congress to change federal law so testing requirements are eliminated, and allowing the state to provide its own student learning standards instead of teaching and learning to tests.
