S. Indiana Man Struck, Killed by 1,000-Pound Log

DEPUTY, Ind. (AP) – Southern Indiana police say a 74-year-old man died over the weekend when he was struck by a 1,000-pound log while delivering logs to a lumber mill.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says Jerry L. Spicer of Commiskey died in Saturday morning's accident at the Baxter Lumber Mill in the town of Deputy. Spicer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Madison Courier reports Spicer's body was found next a log weighing about 1,000 pounds.

Spicer was the owner and operator of Spicer Logging and was not a Baxter Lumber Mill employee.
