FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A new scam is trying to convince local residents that they’re being sued by their financial institution.

The Fort Wayne Better Business Bureau says scammers are posing as couriers for Waterman Financial, going door to door and trying to serve fake court documents, with the promise that if you pay up now the lawsuit will be scrapped.

Our partners in news at 21Alive report the BBB has gotten “hundreds” of phone calls about the scammers, and the Bureau says it’s illegal for a courier to collect money for a legal matter.

Waterman Financial says they’re not suing their customers.
