Sheriff Wants Deputies Fired Over Handling $250K

DANVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A central Indiana sheriff is seeking to fire two deputies over their handling of $250,000 in cash from a friend.

The Hendricks County merit board heard testimony Wednesday on the allegations against Deputies Jason Woods and Teresa Woods, who are married.

Sheriff Dave Galloway testified that Jason Woods took the money from the friend and kept it in a safe at the couple's home for about a month. The friend claims he never got the money back from Woods, despite a supposed hand-off of the money outside a McDonald's in Indianapolis.

Galloway says the deputies should have questioned the source of so much cash.

Defense attorney John Kautzman objected to the merit board hearing, saying the couple had the right not to testify while they're under criminal investigation.
