Southern Indiana 6-year-old boy accidentally shoots and kills dad

HARTSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Southern Indiana authorities say a 6-year-old boy has accidentally shot and killed his father.

Bartholomew County sheriff’s deputies say they 62-year-old James E. Lonaker of Hartsville died from a gunshot wound to his upper body while being transported to a hospital.

Deputies say Lonaker had been sitting at his desk Sunday night and did not see the child pick up an unsecured 38-caliber revolver. The gun belonged to Lonaker.

They say Lonaker’s wife and a 1-year-old child also were home when the shooting occurred but were not injured.

Hartsville is about 45 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
