KNOX, Ind. (WOWO): Starke County has been declared unauditable by the Indiana State Board of Accounts after state auditors said they were unable to complete a financial review because of years of unresolved accounting issues.
According to state officials, auditors could not finish the county’s audit due to problems involving three years of incomplete or unresolved financial records.
The designation means the state was unable to verify the accuracy of the county’s finances during the review period.
County leaders acknowledged the accounting problems and said efforts are underway to correct the issues. Officials expect the records to be brought up to date and the financial concerns resolved by the end of June.
The Indiana State Board of Accounts routinely audits local governments across the state to ensure public funds are properly tracked and managed.
It was not immediately clear whether the unresolved records affected specific county departments, accounts or expenditures.
