Stretch Of I-65 Reopens After Emergency Repairs To Bridge

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana highway officials and State Police say a stretch of Interstate 65 near Lafayette has reopened after crews finished emergency structural repairs on a bridge.

State Police and the Department of Transportation said in news releases that the section of highway reopened Wednesday night. The northbound lanes of I-65 between exits for State Road 26 and State Road 25 were closed Tuesday afternoon, and highway officials previously said repairs were expected to be finished by Thursday.

The bridge that underwent emergency repairs goes over Wildcat Creek. Highway officials have said construction crews noticed “unusual movements'' in the bridge, and that further investigation found some bridge bearings fell out in a “short time span.''

The Department of Transportation says bridges over the creek are undergoing improvements as part of an $82.8 million construction contract.
