INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A line of powerful thunderstorms rumbling into northern Indiana has downed trees and power lines, knocking out electricity to thousands of customers.
 
  The Northern Indiana Public Service Company says about 34, 718 customers in northwest Indiana reported power outages as of shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday. Most of the outages are in Crown Point, Gary, Hobart, Merrillville, St. John, Schererville and Valparaiso.
 
  The Times says no injuries have been reported.
 
  The National Weather Service website says golf ball size hail has damaged some cars in Winamac.
 
  National Weather Service radar shows the strongest part of the huge storm sprawled from Gary to Fort Wayne. 
 
  Meteorologists had said the storms could create a destructive weather phenomenon known as a derecho.
