The name of the city police officer involved in the fatal shooting of robbery suspect, Stephen Wattley, II, is released by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Jeffery Burkholder Sr., who was commissioned Sept. 25, 1981, with the department is still on administrative leave at this time.

21-year-old Wattley was shot and killed early Wednesday.

It all started when officers were sent to a pharmacy on East State Boulevard near Hobson Road to investigate a report of an armed robbery.

When they got there, they found a suspect running from the business. They caught up with the man, later identified as Wattley, at an apartment complex.

Authorities say he had a gun and that’s when shots were fired killing Wattley.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.
