Outlaws Gang Member Sentenced to Prison Terms

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis man and a Fort Wayne man who pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a motorcycle gang.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett announced Thursday that U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt sentenced 49-year-old Kent Whitinger of Indianapolis to seven years and three months in federal prison and 38-year-old Steve Reynolds of Fort Wayne to five years and 10 months.

In a 70-page, 37-count charging document filed in July, 42 alleged gang members were charged with a variety of offenses, including racketeering, extortion, drug charges, witness tampering, and operating an illegal gambling operation. In October, nine more were charged.

Federal prosecutors said at the time the arrests were aimed at dismantling a criminal organization where violence was part of doing business.
