FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — Three men were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for evaluation after a pickup truck rolled over during a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening on northbound Interstate 69.
The Fort Wayne Police Department says officers were called to the crash near the 314-mile marker at about 6:48 p.m. Sunday, August 23.
Investigators say a sedan and pickup truck collided, causing the pickup to overturn. When officers arrived, they found three male occupants trapped inside the pickup because of the damage.
The three men were eventually removed from the vehicle and transported to a hospital for evaluation. Police say all three were later released.
The driver of the sedan, an adult woman, was outside the vehicle when officers arrived and was reported to be in good condition.
According to information gathered from witnesses at the scene, police believe the sedan driver may have been driving recklessly before the crash. Investigators say witnesses reported that she attempted to change lanes when the sedan collided with the pickup.
Police also say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
No charges had been filed as of the initial police report, but charges are pending. Police say the woman’s identity may be released if formal charges are filed.
The crash caused a traffic restriction on northbound I-69 while officers processed the scene and crews cleaned up the wreckage. At the time of the police report, one lane of traffic was open, with the remaining lanes expected to reopen within about an hour.
The investigation remains ongoing. Fort Wayne police have not released additional information about the circumstances leading up to the collision or identified the three men who were inside the pickup.
The Fort Wayne Police Department regularly investigates serious crashes involving injuries and uses specialized crash-investigation resources when circumstances warrant.
There were no reported fatalities in Sunday’s crash, and all three occupants of the pickup were released after hospital evaluation.
