Toledo Diocese to Install New Bishop Wednesday

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP): The auxiliary bishop from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is set to become the new leader of the Catholic Diocese of Toledo.

The Most Rev. Daniel E. Thomas will be installed on Wednesday as bishop of the diocese that covers much of northwestern Ohio.

New York's Cardinal Timothy Dolan and about 80 priests from the Philadelphia archdiocese are among those expected in Toledo for the ceremony.

Thomas has been auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia since 2006. He will replace Bishop Leonard Paul Blair who was named bishop of the Hartford Archdiocese in Connecticut a year ago.

Thomas is a native of Philadelphia and was ordained a priest in 1985.

The Diocese of Toledo serves 320,000 Roman Catholics in 124 parishes, including those in Defiance, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Williams Counties.
