Traffic Stop On I-69 Leads To Multiple Drug Arrests In Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — A routine traffic stop along Interstate 69 on Friday morning led to the arrest of four individuals after law enforcement officers discovered a large quantity of suspected drugs and firearms inside a vehicle, according to Indiana State Police.

The stop occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 near the 270-mile marker when Senior Trooper Jesse Reason pulled over a 2020 Jeep for speeding. While speaking with the driver, Trooper Reason reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the Jeep uncovered suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl, heroin, other controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and firearms.

One passenger was identified as Jamir J. Dangerfield, 19, of Lincoln, Illinois. Other occupants included Leighanna E. Allbritton, 19, of Normal, Illinois; Aerius A. Crenshaw, 18, of Normal, Illinois; and a juvenile.

Dangerfield, Allbritton, and Crenshaw were taken into custody and transported to the Grant County Jail. The juvenile was remanded to the Muncie Juvenile Detention Center.

All four individuals were arrested and preliminarily charged with multiple offenses, including dealing in methamphetamine and cocaine, both Level 2 felonies, along with additional felony and misdemeanor drug charges.

Police reported the preliminary weights of the suspected substances as approximately one pound of methamphetamine, 46 grams of cocaine, three pounds of marijuana, 34 grams of fentanyl, four grams of heroin, and 38 grams of other controlled substances.

The substances will be submitted to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for final identification and weight determination.

Trooper Reason was assisted at the scene by troopers from the Indiana State Police Peru District and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
