Trial for Doctor Accused of Not Reporting Abortion

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP): A doctor accused of not properly reporting an abortion on a teenager two years ago is scheduled to stand trial in 2015.

The Times of Munster reports Lake County Judge Nicholas Schiralli on Monday set a trial date of Jan. 26, 2015, for 73-year-old Dr. Ulrich Klopfer of Crete, Illinois. Klopfer performs abortions in Fort Wayne, Gary and South Bend.

He was charged in January with failing to timely file a public report, a Class B misdemeanor. According to court records, he is accused of not reporting to the state within three days that he performed an abortion on a 13-year-old girl in Gary.

He did not attend Monday's hearing. He has previously said he finds it “amazing” that a paperwork error could jeopardize his license.
