Trial Set to Begin for Man in South Bend Toddler’s Death

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – A 19-year-old man charged in the death of a South Bend toddler is set to go on trial this week.

WNDU-TV (http://bit.ly/1HNyJbS ) reports Tarez Buchanon is charged with attempted murder and criminal gang enhancement in the April 2014 death of 2-year-old John Swoveland Jr. Authorities say the child died when he was struck by a stray bullet from a gunfight between two rival gangs several blocks away.

Buchanon, who is set to go on trial Monday, is one of several people charged in connection with the crime. It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
