PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) _ The head of a northern Indiana sanitary district that came under state and federal investigation for unreported sewer overflows says the agency is making improvements.
 
Michigan City Sanitary District General Manager Michael Kuss says 50 of 99 trouble areas deemed needing improvement have been corrected.

The (Munster) Times reports Kuss took over the agency in January 2012, 18 months after state and federal environmental and law enforcement agents raided its offices.
 
The district remains under criminal investigation for allegations of falsification of records and false informing stemming from information provided by a whistle-blower who alleges he was wrongly fired for voicing concerns about safety.
 
Complaints led to the Indiana Occupational Health and Safety Administration finding the agency out of compliance with several regulations.
