Man Shot in Home Invasion Identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The man, who was shot during an attempted home invasion on the city's south side, has been identified.

An autopsy was performed this afternoon on the body of 33-year-old Ricardo Hood of Fort Wayne. The Allen County Coroner ruled his cause of death to be gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead on the scene of the shooting that happened early Monday morning on Melita Street near Webster Street.

Fort Wayne Police say it appears the man tried to burglarize the home when he was confronted by the homeowner, who was armed. The owner, who was the only person home at the time, shot the invader, who is believed to have acted alone.

Hood is the 35th homicide victim for Fort Wayne and Allen County this year. (A ruling of homicide by the coroner means that an individual died as the result of an act of another human being, and does not necessarily imply criminal intent.)

The incident currently remains under investigation.
