Two Charged with Murder in Lafayette Shooting Deaths

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Two men have been charged with murder in the shooting deaths of two men in Lafayette earlier this month.

Jacob Guffey of Delphi and Matthew Oertel of Lafayette were charged Wednesday in the Aug. 4 fatal shooting of 36-year-old Aaron Hunter Jr. and 46-year-old Terry Smith Jr. Police say Hunter and Smith were found with gunshot wounds in the front yard of a residence and later died.

According to court documents, Guffey says an accomplice shot the two men during an armed robbery at the home. The documents say Oertel claims he dropped Guffey off in an alley behind the house before the shooting.

Online court records did not list attorneys for Guffey or Oertel.
