Two People in the Hospital after Semi Hits Construction Machinery

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):  Two people were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a semi hit a bucket lift.

The bridge over I-69 at CR 325 W has been under construction for a while and as Adam Sparks, of Indianapolis, was driving a semi southbound on I-69, he hit a parked bucket lift that had Ted Cook of Marion and Brandon Morris of Columbia City inside.

The investigation revealed that as Sparks drove under the bridge, the top passenger side corner of his semi trailer struck the bottom corner of the bucket that the workers were in, which was approximately 13 feet above the roadway at the time. Morris fell from the bucket onto the passing lane of I-69. Cook stayed inside the bucket, but was also injured.

Both patients were transported to the hospital in serious to critical condition. Further patient information is currently not available.

No citations were issued to Sparks and the collision is still under investigation.
