UPDATE: Fire on Cass Street Accidental

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): FWFD Investigators have determined Tuesday's fire on Cass Street to be accidental in nature. They say the blaze was caused by a minor playing with a lighter.

A home is badly damaged after flames broke out Tuesday afternoon.

Fort Wayne firefighters got the call to the house fire on Cass Street near Harrison and Wells Streets just before 4:30 p.m., Tuesday. Before their arrival, a woman and child escaped the home unharmed.

Once crews arrived on the scene, they found flames coming from the first floor window. It took them about 12 minutes to bring the blaze under control, but the home sustained heavy damage. There was also some damage to the exterior of the neighboring home.

Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
