UPDATE: Small Plane Crash Reported Near Monroe Co. Airport

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities are investigating a plane crash near the Monroe County Airport outside Bloomington.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says the crash occurred Thursday on Oard Road west of Bloomington. He says state police had no immediate word of injuries.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says the agency received a report that a small aircraft had crashed just short of a runway about 12:45 p.m. She had no other details on the crash, but said the agency would send investigators to the crash site.

The Herald-Times quotes Monroe County Airport Director Bruce Payton as confirming a plane crashed about that time on property off airport grounds.

Payton reported a fire at the scene and that firefighters were responding.
