UPDATE: Winter Storm Downgraded In Areas

story updated 6PM 1-9-16

SYRACUSE, Ind. (WOWO): The Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled for some of our listening area.

The National Weather Service says the cold air is slower to move into the area and the precipitation will stay rain for longer than anticipated. The Winter Storm Warning has been replaced with a Winter Weather Advisory with snow amounts reduced to 2-4 inches in areas closer to South Bend.

The areas under a Winter Weather Advisory include Elkhart, LaGrange, Kociusko and St. Josepth from midnight tonight until 7 p.m. Sunday.  Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, White and Cass counties are under the Advisory starting at 10 p.m Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday.  The National Weather Service still advises that accumulating snow and poor travel conditions are possible tonight into Sunday across the entire listening area.

Fort Wayne is looking at 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning. It also means a concern of “flash freezing” for the entire listening area because of colder temperatures that will follow this system.
