Kendallville police were dispatched to the intersection of Main and Sargent streets just before 1:30 p.m. to reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the entryway of a duplex on Sargent Street. He appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.

Kendallville police officers, Kendallville firefighters and Parkview Noble EMS units worked to revive him for approximately 30 minutes before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as Justin Rodman, 18 of Kendallville.

Multiple people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, who were then interviewed by police, Noble County Sheriff’s Detectives and Indiana State Police Detectives.

A search warrant of the home was also obtained shortly after the shooting, and police located a firearm within the home they believe was involved in the shooting.

Investigators believe the shooting took place in the upstairs apartment, and after being shot, Rodman descended the stairs and collapsed in the entryway.

One person was arrested following interviews and a search of the home. Logan Dewitt, 20 of Kendallville, faces one charge of Criminal Recklessness While Possessing a Deadly Weapon.

The shooting is still under investigation, and Rodman’s official cause and manner of death will be released at a later date.
