Woman Shot Dead During Street Robbery in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis police say a woman has died after being shot multiple times during a street robbery.

Police say the shooting occurred about 1:15 a.m. Monday on the city's near south side.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 33-year-old Hilary Acton of Clayton. Police say she found dead lying in a street.

Mark Williams told WISH-TV he and Acton were walking to his brother's home after going shopping when they were approached by two men demanding they turn over the bags they were carrying. Williams says after a brief exchange, the men opened fire and then ran from the scene without taking anything.

He says one of the men looked scared when he opened fire.

Clayton is a Hendricks County town about 20 miles west of Indianapolis.
