Workers Find Human Skull at NW Indiana Site

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say construction workers have found a human skull at a northwestern Indiana site.

Investigators were called to the scene north of Valparaiso on Monday after crews installing the new Enbridge pipeline discovered the skull.

Porter County police Sgt. Larry LaFlower tells The (Munster) Times that detectives and workers using excavating equipment sifted dirt in a 200-square foot area to look for other remains or belongings but found none.

LaFlower says the area is being treated as a crime scene.

Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris says the skull was missing its jawbone.

The site is about 15 miles east of Gary.
