YMCA Initiative to Combat Childhood Obesity

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana is one of 14 states that YMCA is targeting for an initiative against childhood obesity. Some of the potential projects for the state's YMCA locations are creating safe walking routes to schools, upping physical education, and making it easier to get fruit and vegetables. A study shows that in 2010, 14.2 percent of Indiana children ages 2 to 5 and just over 12 percent of high school aged children were obese. The YMCA is giving Indiana $280,000 for two years toward the effort.
