1 Dead After Plane Crashes Near Starke County Airport

KNOX, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say one person has died after a homemade experimental aircraft crashed near a northern Indiana airport.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the RV6A small-engine plane crashed Monday afternoon in a cornfield just south of Knox, about 30 miles southwest of South Bend. The crash site is near the Starke County Airport.

The name of the person killed was not immediately released by local authorities.

FAA records say the aircraft is registered to a Virginia man.
