13-year-old Indiana boy charged with killing 9-year-old boy

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Prosecutors in Marion County say a 13-year-old boy is charged with the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy last month in Cumberland.

The Indianapolis Star reports that court documents show the 13-year-old will be kept in custody because of the murder charge and to protect him and the community. He is charged with the May 27 death of 9-year-old Anthony Harmon Jr. The boy died after being shot in the face. He was found with a gunshot wound in the kitchen of an apartment and pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents show the prosecutor won’t try to try the 13-year-old as an adult. The case will remain in juvenile court. Court documents also show the boy has denied the allegations.

Cumberland is a town just east of Indianapolis.
