INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) — By now, you have probably heard that the popular social media app TikTok could be banned in the United States. Hoosier content creators are worried about this.

The ban could go into effect Sunday, assuming the U.S. Supreme Court does not intervene. Lawmakers who are not fully in support of it are still advocating for the Chinese-owned app to be sold.

While TikTok mainly serves as an entertainment platform for many users, it also helps some professionals grow their businesses and earn money.

Indianapolis-based realtor Summer Hudson tells WISH-TV that she has been using the app to post tours of local homes since the COVID-19 pandemic. She says her online presence has helped her agency grow “significantly,” and has earned her some extra cash each month.

Another local creator, Tommy Barrett, enjoys using his account to highlight restaurants and businesses in the area, as well as connect with others online.

The main argument against TikTok at this time is that the app accesses and stores users’ personal information, which then poses a “security risk” for Americans.
