VAN WERT, OH (WOWO) A Van Wert, Ohio, mail carrier has pleaded not guilty to federal charges after allegedly burning undelivered mail, WLIO reports.

Kyle Carver faces one count of delay or destruction of mail. The case began in October when a Van Wert police officer responded to a backyard fire in the 900 block of George Street around 7:30 a.m. The officer discovered mail being burned at the residence.

Carver, who lived at the property, is accused of intentionally burning the mail he was assigned to deliver. U.S. Postal Inspectors reviewed the incident and presented evidence to a federal grand jury, which led to formal charges being filed earlier this month.

The case remains pending, and Carver has entered a plea of not guilty to the federal charge. Authorities have not released further details about potential court dates or next steps.
