FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – An accidental house fire came as a result of homeowners attempting to thaw frozen pipes.

It happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday in the 5300 block of Rothermere Drive.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department says they found smoke coming from the home’s roof upon arrival. They say they had the fire extinguished within about half an hour.

All occupants were able to self-evacuate prior to the department’s arrival, though one person was taken to the hospital for observation.
