Accident at Garrett Factory Kills Contractor

GARRETT, Ind. (AP): A coroner says a Fort Wayne man died from a head injury he suffered when a scissor-lift toppled inside a factory as he was installing a safety feature on a crane.
 

DeKalb County Coroner Jeff Warner says 54-year-old Jim McCullough was on a scissor-lift about 35 feet in the air Saturday afternoon, trying to install safety equipment on a crane inside Assmann Corp.'s factory in Garrett.

 

Warner tells The Star of Auburn that for an unknown reason, the crane moved and struck the scissor lift, causing it to topple over inside the factory. He says McCullough fell and landed on the back of his head, inflicting a fatal wound.
 
State workplace safety officials are investigating his death.
