Fort Wayne Hospitals Pay Millions for Unreimbursed Care

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Unpaid patient care cost area hospitals tens of millions of dollars.

To the tune of $50 million dollars in 2013. That's according to a report in today's News-Sentinel. The report reviewed spending at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Parkview Randallia and Lutheran Hospital. Those numbers could be much less with recently the approved expansion of the Healthy Indiana Plan.

It will likely mean more insured patients and more funding through Medicaid. The study shows Parkview's two main hospitals in Allen County spent $42 million in unreimbursed care, Lutheran spent about $8.3 million.
