Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Department Tests for West Nile Virus

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):Health officials will begin testing for the West Nile virus this July. Until then, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health has started their annual mosquito-control program.</span>

According to the Journal Gazette, the health department keeps a list of nearly 400 permanent mosquito-breeding sites where the infected insects are known to lay their eggs Most of those spots include local ditches, ponds, and wetlands, where scientists will put netted-traps as part of the mosquito-control program.

Dave Fiess, director of the Vector Control & Environmental Services division at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health told the Journal Gazette, Allen County has been testing for the virus since 2002. Every year, they've found mosquitoes carrying the virus.
