Vonnegut’s boyhood home for sale in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP):The boyhood home of author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. is up for sale in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Star reports the four-bedroom, Arts & Crafts style home designed by Vonnegut's architect father is listed at $899,000. Owners Cheryl and Paul Walton bought the house in 2008 before they knew of the connection to Vonnegut.

An imprint of Vonnegut's child-size hand remains in concrete that was poured in the 1920s. The family sold the house in 1930 after the family was forced to move into a smaller house because of the Great Depression.

The Waltons tried to sell the house privately to several foundations and universities, including the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library, but there were no takers.

Vonnegut wrote “Slaughterhouse-Five,” ''Cat's Cradle,” and “Hocus Pocus.” He died in 2007 at age 84.
