Explosion Destroys Rental Home on West Side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Wayne Township Fire Department is investigating a house explosion on the west side of Indianapolis.

Firefighters arrived early Monday morning to battle the flames after the rental house had exploded. Capt. Mike Pruitt says the house was empty and no one was injured. He says two neighboring homes were damaged by the explosion and heat from the fire.

Investigators believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak. But Pruitt says the department will continue to investigate.

Pruitt says the remains of the house have been deemed unsafe. He says it will eventually be turned over to the Indianapolis Building Code Enforcement for removal.
