Pence Spokeswoman Dismayed Over News Service ‘Confusion’

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A spokeswoman for Gov. Mike Pence says she is dismayed by the “consternation and confusion” caused by documents describing plans to launch a state-run news website.

Pence communications director Christy Denault said Wednesday that the “Just IN” site's purpose is to better organize and present news releases from state agencies.

Internal documents obtained by The Indianapolis Star said the site would feature stories written by state press secretaries for the public and the media and would break news on occasion. That sparked criticism from journalists around the country, with some comparing the endeavor to state-run media in Russia and China.

Denault says the plan is still being finalized and that organizers hope to discuss it with the Hoosier State Press Association and Society of Professional Journalists before the website launches.
