Man Dead, Wife, Stepson Critical After Owen County Fire

FREEDOM, Ind. (AP) _ A western Indiana man has died and his wife and stepson are both in critical condition following a fire that gutted their home.

The Herald-Times reports 43-year-old Dan Reynolds of Owen County died Thursday in an Indianapolis hospital a day after the fire at their home near the town of Freedom.

Forty-one-year-old Joy Reynolds and her son, 11-year-old Bailey Little, both suffered severe burns and are hospitalized in Indianapolis.

The Owen County Sheriff's Department says a passerby spotted the fire about 6 a.m. Wednesday. The family was able to escape the home.

Friends of the family at Pleasant Hill Community Church said the couple had been married about a year and had recently moved into the home in a wooded area about 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
