Indy, Surrounding Cities to Share City Data

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): The mayors of Indianapolis, Fishers, Greenwood and Zionsville have signed an agreement to share city data:

The mayors say it's the first multi-city open-data initiative in the nation. Fishers' Scott Fadness says analyzing that information regionally will allow cities to sharpen strategies in areas from economic development to public safety. And Fadness says he's already heard from entrepreneurs eager to see building permit information so they can predict which houses are likely to need new roofs or water heaters, and develop mobile apps using that information.

There's no date set for the information to go live. Once it does, Fadness says the available data will be constantly expanding.
