FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Allen County’s secret weapon in the response to severe weather needs a few more people on its roster.

Allen County’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) has been dwindling over the years as people move away or volunteer elsewhere, according to 21Alive.

County Homeland Security Director Bernie Beier says CERT team members learn basic disaster response skills that they then use when the county needs help with things like basic search and rescue, checking gas meters, and first aid.
