Allen County Genealogist Finds Vet’s Relatives

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): More than a thousand Fort Wayne residents turned out for a funeral held for a Vietnam vet with no known living relatives… but one Allen County librarian has found his relatives.

We told you about James Beavers two weeks ago, and how officials couldn't find any relatives to notify about his death. His story led a large number of people to turn out for his funeral as a sign of respect for his military service. Now Librarian Sara Allen, who works in the Allen County Public Library's genealogy center, tells our Partners in News at 21Alive Beavers' story inspired her to take a look… she ended up finding some cousins in West Virginia.

The relatives had no idea Beavers had died, but were reportedly “thrilled” at how the public responded to his story.
